Ping i540 Golf Irons - Steel
The Ping i540 irons are aimed at golfers who like the cleaner shape of a players iron but still want the extra launch, speed and forgiveness that come with a modern distance-focused design. Ping has blended a refined profile with powerful internal technology to create an iron that produces strong ball speeds, impressive carry and the descent angle needed to hold greens more effectively.
Using a thinner maraging-steel face, low-positioned tungsten and a carefully engineered cavity structure, the i540 offers a lively, powerful strike while still delivering the sound, feel and control accomplished players look for in a more compact head.
The i540 is designed to help golfers gain extra yardage without moving into an oversized iron shape. By removing mass from the face and cavity construction, Ping has been able to reposition weight more efficiently inside the head. In the 4 to 7 irons, tungsten is placed low in the clubhead to bring the centre of gravity down, helping to create faster launch conditions, stronger ball speed and improved stopping power into the green.
A forged variable-thickness maraging-steel face is central to the performance of the i540. With a construction that is approximately 9% thinner, the face is able to flex more through impact, helping to generate additional speed and carry. Ping has also designed the surrounding transition areas to support more metal-wood-style movement, contributing to a higher peak flight and more distance throughout the set.
Ping's patent-pending inR-Air Technology introduces an internal air pocket positioned behind the face within the cavity. This design helps fine-tune the acoustics and impact sensation by reducing unwanted vibration, while still allowing the face to perform freely. The material used in the insert has been tested extensively to ensure it remains effective in a wide range of temperatures and playing conditions.
The i540 also features i-Beam Technology, a structural support beam that runs across the cavity of the 17-4 stainless steel body. This added reinforcement helps improve overall stability and contributes to a more solid, refined feel at impact, while preserving the speed-producing characteristics of the face design.
