Putting Tips

Golf is definitely a game of skill, and no where is that better seen than in a person's putting game. It takes patience, skill, and yes, even a little bit of luck on your side to sink that ball into the hole. However, there are a few things that you can do to make the whole experience work in your favor. Below are some putting tips that just might help turn that bogey into a birdie on your next hole.

A lot of times, amateur golfers focus way to much on the ball itself. The name of the game is to get the ball to travel along a certain path line and into the hole. Often, if you focus only on the ball, the end goal gets out of focus. Instead, concentrate on a point about an inch in front of the ball along the target line to the hole. Then it's just a matter of connecting the dots with your club to make a line. This is perhaps one of the easier putting tips to master. Simply use your imagination!

Believe it or not, the reason that many golfers miss their putt shot isn't because of the lack of skill, but because of too much movement on their part. Unlike your drive along the fairway, where you want to open yourself up into a full swing, putting is all about control. This little gem in the putting tips indicates that if you move too much and open up too soon, you'll chance the trajectory of the ball. If that happens, you'll most likely miss the putt. Instead, keep your head down while completing your shot. Once the ball is on its way, then look up. Have a little faith in your ability, and chances are you'll be able to make those tough shots in no time.

Golf is like any other sport; a person always gets better with practice. Even the professionals, who make it look so easy, spend hours on the golf links and driving ranges practicing their chosen profession. Here are some great putting tips to help you practice your game and improve your skills. An easy one is to take about 10 balls and line them up in a row about 4 feet away from the hole. This will allow you to practice the straight putt, and focus more on the stroke and not the break. This one of the putting tips is a great way to determine if you stroke is wrong, since the speed of the ball is of little importance during this short length. For each of the ten balls, practice your putting techniques, keeping the following things in mind. First, make sure the putter goes straight back from the ball with no raising as you would in a fairway swing. Second, make sure that the club travels straight through the ball to the point about an inch in front of the ball without changing the level. You wouldn't believe how hard this is to do at first, but with practice, this skill will become second nature.

These are but a few of the putting tips that you can make us of while practicing for your next tour of the links. Ask your friends, or even your golf instructor. Chances are they'd be able to give you a few more pointers to improve your game. Above all, remember to have some fun, and enjoy this great game that highlights your skill.
